Background

For over two decades, Jim Hauck has been at the forefront of environmental law and regulatory advocacy. He understands that being an attorney in this field requires more than just providing traditional legal services—it necessitates an ongoing relationship with every client—from the very beginning of the problem through its ultimate resolution.

Emphasis

Jim  advises clients on compliance, permitting, and enforcement defense issues in a wide array of industries in the Midwest and around the country. His clients have included public utilities, cement, coal gasification, refineries, steel companies, and various manufacturing businesses. He understands the complexities that arise before state, local, and national environmental agencies (including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) with regard to permitting, Clean Air Act compliance, and complex wastewater, stormwater, landfill, and storage tank regulation.


Experience

Before founding Hatchett & Hauck in 2004, Jim was an attorney at Barnes & Thornburg LLP, as well as Baker & Daniels (now Faegre Drinker).  In every counsel setting, Jim has sought to be an integral part of his clients' business teams.

Involvement

Jim has been involved with the Environmental Section of the Indiana State Bar (as its past Chair), the Indianapolis Bar Association, and the Indiana Chapter of the Air & Waste Management Association (as its past publications Chair).  He has worked to improve circumstances for disadvantaged children and their families through his work (and past directorship) at Child Advocates and with foster care adoptions.  He cultivates his interest in native plants, having served as Vice-President of the Horticultural Society of Newfields. He is an avid hiker and may often be found roaming the desert in Big Bend National Park or the mountains of Wyoming’s Wind River Range.
